- For starters, be sure to read the ACA's Handbook of Archival Certification. It will give you a thorough understanding of the certification process. This document includes the list of suggested readings and sample questions from past exams.
- In order to take the exam, you must submit an application to the ACA, which must be approved.
- You must be eligible to sit the exam under one of the Academy's options, generally a mix of education and experience. You must also provide documentation of said education and experience. So, don't wait until the last minute to put together your application!!
- On your application, you must choose one of their pre-determined testing sites (New Orleans, LA; Hartford, CT; Indianapolis, IN; Las Vegas, NV; Orlando, FL). However, you can also write-in your own testing location. If at least five people choose the same site, they will host a test there.
- Application fee: $50
- Application deadline: May 15
- Exam date: August 14
